The ECONOMUSEUM® Project proposes to extend the Network of ECONOMUSEUM® (or ECONOMUSÉES®) now successfully operating in Quebec and Atlantic Canada into Northern Ontario.
These ECONOMUSEUM® sites would serve to enhance the touring routes of Northern Ontario; for example, Highways 17and 11, resulting in increased visitor capture time, economic diversification and resulting in overnights in rural Northern communities. An Inventory was completed in 2003 and 39 elegible businesses were classified as ready for transformation. An Ontario Economuseum® corporation now guides the development of this cultural initiative.
'HeritageTthat Earns its Keep'
An ECONOMUSEUM® business makes its products using traditional techniques, know-how or trades. It promotes the expertise of its craftsmen by showing the production of an object through long-established techniques. Sale of products on-site to the visiting public and online to others creates self-sufficiency for the crafts and agri-food entrepreneurs.
Thunder Bay Ventures and its partners - Superior North CFDC and Muskoka CFDC - recognize and appreciate the funding provided by Ontario's Ministry of Municipal Housing, Rural Affairs, through the OSTAR RED program as well as federal and regional contributors to the completed Inventory.
